Plus Size Woolly Winter Tights

As soon as I got above a size 18 tights have been the bane of my life. I'm 5 ft 9, a size 24 with very wide, podgy hips, big thighs and calves and a smaller waist. Tights are either too short in the body and stop mid-hip so they fall down or they're too short in the leg and I get friction burns where the crotch is too low down (sexy, I know) or if they're long enough they're too big on my waist and hips and fall down as soon as I move. It's so irritating! A few months ago I went through my drawers and cleared out my tights; I had 17 pairs all of which had either tried on and immediately taken off or had never been worn. That's a lot of wasted money!

Fortunately for me, The Big Bloomers Company exist! They also have a sister site called The Big Tights Company, both of which sell a huge range of tights from a size 20 right up to a size 42 which I've never seen a company do! The only thing I want to wear in winter is woolly tights which are more impossible to get than regular tights for a fat body so when lovely Laura offered to send me a couple of pairs of their new winter tights there was no way I was going to decline.

I was sent All Woman Cotton Tights with Cotton Feel and All Woman 180 Denier Tights. After trying a few brands from The Big Tights Company I've discovered that the All Woman range suit me the most so I had high hopes for these.

Upon taking the tights out of the packet the shape is very different compared to regular tights is completely different. They're longer, the waist band is deep and there's a completely opaque shorts area. They're much bigger than tights I've bought before, almost legging-like which I quite liked because it meant I didn't have to do the sexy tights wrestle that leaves me looking like I've just had the biggest, sweatiest sexy time when I put them on but minus the pleasant, satisfied afterglow.

The opaque shorts on the 180 Denier Tights were quite long, much longer than the ones on the Cotton Feel tights. If you're wearing a shorter dress/skirt that falls about mid-thigh I'd suggest going for the Cotton Feel ones just to be safe.

Both pairs of tights were so, so comfortable on. The Cotton Feel were slightly more opaque than the 180 Denier but both were nice and warm, perfect for this time of year. I like my tights to come up high and I'm quite partial to having them tucked in my bra for extra toastiness which I could do with both. I even found the 180 Denier ones a bit too long in the body which almost never happens! I didn't have to pull either of them up once during the day although the 180 Denier did feel a bit droopy towards the end of the day.

Now for some beautiful, super sexy visual aids!

I did manage to poke a couple of holes in the Cotton Feel tights purely because I was putting them on in a rush and I have ridiculous stiletto nails. Amazingly though because these are cotton the holes didn't run and I even managed to put a stitch in them successfully!

If you're trying to choose between the two pairs I would personally go for the Cotton Feel ones. They were thicker, more opaque and all over a better fit on me. I think the 180 Denier would suit someone size 28+ or over 5 ft 10 with a larger tummy or longer body.

At £18.95 and £19.95 they are expensive but if you struggle to find well fitting plus size tights, it's worth it. I've had mine for about two weeks now, wear them 4-5 times a week and run them through the washing machine (because who has time for hand washing) every two wears and both pairs are still perfect. I've bought myself two more pairs to keep me going until summer and although it did make me wince paying out for them, they are absolutely worth it.

Winter Crochet

I'm not normally one for jersey skater dresses because I'm not big fan of my tummy and they tend to cling but the Scarlett & Jo Crochet Collar Dress was too pretty to pass up! I love purple hues in the winter and anything crochet is guaranteed to win my heart.

I got my usual size 24 and as always with Scarlett & Jo the fit is spot on. Their sizing is so consistent and even the length is perfect for my 5 ft 8ish stature. The longer sleeves are brilliant, not just for covering my wibbly arms but for extra warmth in the colder months. I wore mine with my black fur coat which never fails to make me feel like a big, glamorous bear and keeping with the purple hues, my trusty Clarks loafers and favourite AW lipstick, Kate Moss for Rimmel no107.

The colour of the dress comes up a little more purple than it is in real life, it's much closer to the silly selfie with my mama!

Hello wonky boob...
Beautiful collar detail
My mum has been doing excellent fashion lately!

The dress is in the sale for £30 at the minute AND Evans are giving you 15% off with the code 15TREAT so if you like the look of it, grab it now!

Lindy Bop Plus Size Spots

Lindy Bop have been around for quite a while but until recently I wasn't able to shop with them due to their dresses peaking at a UK22. However, over the last six months they've introduced sizes 24 and 26 into the mix which brought joy to my size 24 body!

They have an enormous range of dresses all of which are very reasonably priced. Plus size pin-up and retro style clothing used to come with a rather large price tag so it's brilliant seeing companies charging the same amount as they would for straight sizes. Lindy Bop stock the increasingly popular Ophelia dresses (which now come in 34 different prints!) and have recently introduced a dress I have lusted after for a long time, Bella, in plus size too.

For some reason though I didn't dive in with the Bella straight away, instead I went for the Lana Red Polka Dot Swing Dress. It felt a little more like an every day dress and it's definitely proved to be that!

I originally bought this in my usual size 24 but found it a struggle to get over my boobs. I'm not sure if it was due to the thick material, my massive ol' boobs or whether the dress just comes up a little small. I exchanged it for a 26 which fits perfectly. It's comfortable over my bust, the waist nips in nicely with room for dinner and the length is, for once, spot on! The dress is lined and the fabric is heavy so falls well without any riding up against tights and very little creasing. Considering it cost £29.99 I am extremely pleased! It comes with a black cinch belt but I have quite a small torso so often find wider belts don't fit well and tend to scrunch up. However, I love how it looks without one!

(I know, I know, the hem was turned up but husband conveniently didn't see that...)

I really hope Lindy Bop will eventually extend their plus size range to include larger plus sizes too. It's such a shame to make that step into the plus size world but it still be limited to some. Plus size pin-up dresses for all!

Black Cats and Bruce Campbell

As much as I love Halloween I rarely get a chance to dress up because I never do anything that warrants it so sadly you won't find an incredible costume here. I always get some sweets in for the trick or treaters, carve a pumpkin to put outside (although I didn't have time this year so bought some glow-in-the-dark balloons from Tesco which turned out to be utter rubbish) and watch a scary film.

original poster for the evil dead

Mr D found our local art cinema, Errol Flynn Filmhouse was showing The Evil Dead at 11.45pm. We seriously struggled to stay awake but it so worth it because it was even more hilarious on a big screen! If you've never seen it, I strongly urge you to, it is quite possibly the cheesiest, funniest, most disgusting horror film I've ever seen. Despite the fact that it was released in 1981 and therefore the special effects and make-up are laughable, it is seriously stomach floppingly gross in places. Stop motion decaying, cottage cheese innards and more tar like blood than you can shake a stick at. It is glorious! There were only about 30 people in the cinema and we were all cheering and laughing along, it was so much fun.

Oh my god, we've run out of sweets!
Halloween seemed the purrfect opportunity to don the black sequin cat eared fascinator I was gifted by Arcadia and my beautiful Black Cat It Again dress from Modcloth. From far away it just looks like it's covered in black splodges but up close it's fat black cats! I got this dress in the Modcloth sale a few weeks ago and for some reason I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I do but it's lovely! I got my usual 3X and as always, the fit is spot on.

(I almost didn't post these photos because they're so rubbish...no shoes so not even a proper outfit and the worst cluttered background I could have found! I love you Autumn and Winter but not your lack of light.)

Clutter and untidy living room from my new found busy life at university.
My very own black cat from...Cats Protection.

What did you do for Halloween? Do you hate me for my awful photos?
