Flamingo!

A little while ago the lovely Charlotte from Black Heart Creatives put a call out for bloggers to review her new Palm Bling collection. Sensing there would be flamingos in the mix I was one of the first in line to say yes! Black Heart Creatives brought us all the infamous 'Fat Bitch' necklace loved by so many happy fatties and although I'm not bold enough to wear that I am definitely bold enough to get some huge, pink flamingos in my ears! And lucky for me Charlotte sent me these Tickled Pink Flamingo Drop Earrings!

I went to Twinwood last weekend which seemed the perfect place to wear them as I was also wearing my boldest, brightest sunflower dress. The two went perfectly and I had a few people comment on them!

All the colours!

The earrings themselves are really sturdy. I've had a lot of laser cut acrylic jewellery snap easily in the past, especially if they're lent on but these stood up nicely. Now I just need the matching necklace!

Black Heart Creatives have very kindly given my readers 20% for the next 7 days so go, spend your fresh wages! Just enter ELE20 at the checkout. I can strongly recommend the flamingos and also the amazing Live Fast Die Yum range which is just fabulous and all of which can be custom coloured!

Happy shopping and don't forget to use ELE20 at the checkout!

ps. There will be a full post on my day at Twinwood with my outfit details on Monday.

Green & Red Isn't Just For Christmas!

Since having my red hair I've developed a strong love for green clothes. I fell in love with this Modcloth dress as soon as I set my eyes on it and I was not disappointed when it arrived. The big lace trim collar is perfect, the belt finishes it perfectly and it has the holy grail of plus size clothing; pockets!

I wore this to a sunny pub lunch with my mum and step-dad. I'm used to getting second glances where they live in the back of beyond in Suffolk but this was the first time I'd worn a dress above my knee with my tattoo slightly on show...it made quite the impression on the old men in the pub!

Plus North 2014

If you haven't heard of Plus North (where on earth have you been?!) it's a plus size fashion event in the North of England that celebrates plus size women and all the fashion related things we love! I attended the first one in 2012 and it was the defining moment of my body acceptance ~journey~. (Is there any non-twee, cheesy way of saying that?!) I went with my husband and spent the entire time deep breathing my way through panic attacks and not speaking to people. Fortunately for me three wonderful ladies sat on a table with my husband and I and eased my anxiety by being generally lovely. I even mustered the confidence to wander around the stalls and had my first encounter with the beautiful soul that is Pesky Chloe. Being exposed to so many plus size women in one place who were confident, happy and had access to relevant fashion had such an impact on me. My favourite thing about Plus North is that they use non-professional models for the catwalk (including me, heyyyy!). Seeing women who had fat tummies, cellulite on their chubby thighs and body parts that I could relate to walking down the catwalk confidently completely overwhelmed me and made me a bit teary! It opened a whole world up to me that I didn't really know existed and I am forever grateful to Plus North for that!

Beautiful models from 2013.

Last year was a totally different experience. I went alone, met tons of new people as well as seeing friends, I spoke to hundreds of people, interacted with brands and modeled for Simple Be. The day event was heaving with brands, big and small, had 5+ catwalks spread across the day, blogger related workshops, chances to buy beautiful clothes and accessories at bargain prices and goody bags a plenty! The evening was sponsored  by Scarlett & Jo to showcase their new collection and descended into...well, two words; drunk karaoke.

Scarlett & Jo model babes!

Plus North 2014 promises to be just as fabulous with the fun spread across a whole weekend. The Saturday will be brand and catwalk day with an after party in the evening and the Sunday is community day with workshops and a plus size fashion swap. It's being held at Baracoa in Leeds on the 30th and 31st August 2014 so not long to wait! There will be loads of brands and independent shops there such as Simply BeYours ClothingTopsy CurvyNicky Rockets & Betty Pamper's Curverella t-shirts and Chunky Cat Cuddler

I LOVED the Simply Be dress I got to model!

I'm not ashamed to say that Plus North is one of the biggest highlights of my year. It's one of the few places that I feel completely comfortable in. I don't mind wandering around on my own, approaching people and initiating conversation which is a huge thing for me. Everyone is there for the same reason, to celebrate fashion in a safe and inclusive space, whilst having the most fun! If you don't already have your tickets I strongly urge you to, you will not regret it!

Back To School For Grown Ups!

As of September I will be going to university 9 years later than the average student! I went at 18 but after three course changes, endless teary phone calls to my mum and many hours spent alone in my room I decided it probably wasn't the best place for me to be at that time. It was really tough to leave but it worked out for the best because two months after I met a silly, not-yet-bearded boy who ended up being my husband!

I'm very excited to go back to school not least because it means new stationary and perhaps new clothes. For the next few weeks I'll be putting together outfits in the hopes of inspiring any other slightly older students who are a bit nervous about being around hip and happenin' teenagers!

I couldn't not include the New Look Inspire Hogwarts t-shirt, it's perfect for the university nerd! I modelled these Simply Be Super Stretch Chloe jeans last weekend at StyleXL and am now a total convert, they're so comfy and fit beautifully; no baggy knees and tight round the ankles. I really love tan coloured accessories this summer so I had to include this ASOS Leather Satchel bag and ASOS Pointed Leather flats. This would be a pretty casual outfit for me so I'd top it all off with a slick of MAC Ruby Woo.

Would you wear this outfit?

Sunshine & Parrots

My new found love for these black skinny jeans from New Look has meant venturing into the world of suitable up-top-wear. I've been all about dresses for so long that I had no idea what style of top would suit me now. As much as I like saying up yours to the restricting, shaming plus size rules I don't feel comfortable in tight top with my tummy on show. I went out with my husband the other day in a really pretty camisole top that was slightly tighter than I normally wear and as silly as it sounds, the fact that I didn't feel comfortable in it really put a downer on my body image that day. It's nice to push the boundaries and venture out of your comfort zone sometimes but only if it makes you feel good, not just for the sake of it.

This cute parrot top ticks all my comfort boxes. The swing style means it's roomy around the hips so doesn't cling and the cross back detail makes it just a bit more interesting. I got my usual size 24 and found the arms quite big and I had some excess material round my boobs so it may be worth sizing down. With the parrot print it felt appropriate to pop in a hair flower!

No eyeliner, argh!
