I've had a really lovely Christmas which means I've been having far too much fun eating cheese, cross-stitching and having arguments with my family over what film to watch next to be blogging! I did manage to do my annual end of year quiz though. I've been doing these in the last week of the year for the last 5 or 6 years and I really enjoy it. It's a nice way of looking back over the year.
2012 hasn't been a particularly good year for me but there have been good points and I'd much rather focus on those than the difficult parts. I have high hopes for 2013 which perhaps I shouldn't do because it only makes room for disappointment but anything has got to be better than this year!
1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
After years of being scared to, I finally had my Bettie bangs cut in! I started the year with a longish, modern fringe but it only lasted a couple of weeks before I took the plunge. I also went on holiday with my friends for the first time which was bloody marvellous.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I resolved to read more and write more, both of which I have definitely done. I've made an effort to keep track of what I've read through Goodreads although I have gotten a little lazy in the last few months. I will definitely be making more, I love doing it!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My childhood best friend gave birth to a baby girl called Ruby in March. She is super cute!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, thank goodness.
5. What countries did you visit?
France, Ireland and the Netherlands.
6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
An overdraft free bank account would be quite nice! And a beauty qualification with my name on it.
7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
16th February when we stayed in a beautiful manor house in Wales for Valentine's Day, 25th August - 1st September for being the best bloody week with our friends and the 15th December when I had the honour of being a bridesmaid and witnessing one of my best friends get married.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being able to go to college is something I'm incredibly proud of which might sound silly but considering a couple of years ago the thought of going somewhere new on my own gave me palpitations and made me sit in a cupboard, I think it's okay!
9. What was your biggest failure?
One of my best and cleverest friends is teaching me to forgive myself over and over again at the minute so I'm going to say I didn't have a biggest failure.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Most awful mental health year in a long time aside, I've only had one bug this year!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
This is going to make me sound like an incredible old woman but...bedroom furniture! It's so pretty :D
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My lovely, hairy husband, as always. There's so much I could say about him but this probably isn't the right place to do it! My mum has also been a flippin' god send this year. As have my friends, even the ones I had neglected a little have been there for me when I've needed it and it's made me realise just how lucky I am to have the people I do in my life.
13. Where did most of your money go?
Horrible bills and lovely vintage crockery.
14. What song will always remind you of 2012?
We Are Young - Fun
15. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I wish I'd socialised a bit more. I've spent a lot of the year hiding indoors and convincing myself being around people would only make me feel worse when in reality it'd probably make me feel better!
16. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Spending money I didn't have.
17. How did you spend Christmas?
I spent it at my mum and step-dad's house and we did nothing except eat cheese, drink wine and watch films. Actually, my husband spent most of it poking me in the bum with the back scratcher I got him haha.
18. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I fell even more in love with my silly old husband.
19. What was your favourite TV program?
There were loads! Game of Thrones, The Borgias, Homeland, Mad Men, Girls, Downton Abbey, Smash, The Thick Of It. This was a good year for tv.
20. What was the best book you read?
The Poison Tree. I was severely disappointed in the ITV adaptation though; it was absolutely nothing like the book.
21. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Lumineers. Or The XX.
22. What did you want and get?
A beautiful dressing table! And finally the motivation to start being healthier.
23. What did you want and not get?
The motivation is start being healthier sooner!
24. What was your favourite film of this year?
End of Watch, without a doubt. It was incredible.
25. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 25 and my lovely husband arranged a surprise birthday dinner at a beautiful restaurant I'd wanted to go to for ages.
26. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Better mental health.
27. What kept you sane?
My family and friends. And the cats.
28. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jack Whitehall. Which is strange because he's a little scrawny for my liking but there's just something about him!
29. Who did you miss?
My friend Victoria but it was wonderful to be able to spend a whole week with her in the summer and her weddingy weekend. And my kitty, Tigger.
30. What does 2013 hold for you?
The start of two completely new and exciting business ventures! And hopefully many new clothes a few sizes smaller.
Wishing you all a very, very happy new year and brilliant start to 2013!

I hope you all have a wonderful day whether you celebrate it or not. For those of you who dread this time of year, it'll be over before you know it. But it gets too much, don't suffer alone. Kellie from Big Fashionista has written a brilliant post full of places you can reach out and talk to someone. If you don't know where to turn, please use it.
Be safe and be happy!

Considering I wore this on the 1st December, it's not a particularly winter-sensible outfit. I did wear a massive, woolly cardigan but still, this is definitely a summer dress!
