Five Good Things

Things are more than a little difficult lately which means I'm struggling to find motivation for blogging. I thought instead of getting myself in a state about the things I'm not blogging, I'd put a smile on my face by focusing on the positive bits!

I'd like to do this once a week just to remind myself that even I've had the most rubbish week, I'm still here which is an achievement in itself and I've actually probably had a few really lovely moments.

1. I've been spending a bit of extra time with my mum lately in order to get some rest and to give my lovely, hairy husband a break from worrying how I am when he's not at home. Mum and I have been spending lots of time walking round Bury St Edmunds looking at the beautiful Christmas decorations. It's tiring being outside and *doing things* but my mum is so incredibly understanding and supportive so knows we need regular hot chocolate breaks.

2. For the last 6 months I've been collecting vintage china in preparation for setting up my own little vintage tea party business. I went through all my bits and made an little inventory to see how close I am to being ready and I'm not far off! This is something I've always wanted to do and I know I'll be good at it so I can't wait to get going.
A few of my favourite bits.

3. Skype-ing with my hairy husband whilst I'm at my mum's. Although I miss him, it's so lovely having something to look forward to every evening. It reminds me of when we first met and the little flutter of excitement in my tummy when I'd see his name pop up on my screen. So silly and twee but quite lovely! Plus, he's been letting me talk to the kitties... :D

4. I'm finally feeling festive and am starting to look forward to Christmas, yay! I've planned my Christmas food gifts and made a good start on my knitted gifts. Christmas!!

5. Two weeks on Saturday I'm going to be a bridesmaid for my my lovely, lovely friends' wedding! It's in Amsterdam and I'm absolutely terrified of getting on the plane but I am focusing on all the happy bits about it :D This is them being excellent.

I rather enjoyed doing this so expect more of them!

Buying Gifts Made A Little Easier

One of my friends has always said the moment she realised my hairy husband (although back then he was just my unkempt boyfriend) really loved me was when he showed her a dress he'd bought me for my birthday. Apparently she burst into tears and said 'oh my god, you really love her don't you?!'. It is probably still the most beautiful dress I own (let's skim over the fact that it's now two sizes too small...) and he chose it completely by himself.

However, six years on he's gotten a little stuck in the gift buying area. He's the sort of person who likes clear, direct instructions and he's often said the idea of walking into a shopping centre with 50+ shops knowing he has to buy a present leaves him feeling completely overwhelmed. And so, we write lists. Which are brilliant as long as they don't get lost, but they generally still involve physically stepping into a shop. We both get what we like to call 'Tesco Fury' hence why we do our food shopping online so throw in another thousand people who are completely willing to fight to the death for that last Marmite toast rack, the climate change from the British winter to central heated indoors with a coat on and the fury has the potential to turn into full on shopper's meltdown.

When I was contacted by Alex from Ask Her Friends to take a look at their new website designed to make gift buying less stressful and more comfortable for men, I thought this would be the first blog related thing I could share with Mr D! The idea is that he can have a look at all the gorgeous items and products on the website ranging from general fashion and accessories to home-ware and art, create an 'Advice List' then send it to my friends and my mum so they can have a look through and comment on which bits they think I'd really like. There's even a selection of wrapping paper and cards so that's another thing ticked off the list!

There's a clever little idea map which generates some brilliant ideas, some obvious choices and some not so. It doesn't just work for men buying for women; I had a play around to see if I could find something a little different for my mum's birthday in a couple of weeks and found some lovely bits including these Hunter wellies and this sweet little spotty bird house (not that I can get her those now because she's my official biggest reader!).

Mr D said it was very easy to navigate around the site and he found loads of things he would normally never have thought of. He liked the idea of being able to get advice from my mum and friends on the things he'd chosen, especially as vintage is so on trend at the moment he said he finds it difficult to weed out the gems. He said he would have liked a few more items in certain sections like the Art and Prints but that actually it made it a little easier not being overwhelmed with choice. The thing I personally like most about the website is that as well as using big companies like Debenhams and Amazon, they're also supporting small, UK businesses like Lasso The Moon and the brilliant Tatty Devine. Big companies are always packed full of pretty things but there is something special about finding unique, handmade pieces like this super, super cute Teapot and Teacup Necklace...hint hint ;)

If your husband/boyfriend/dad/brother/dog needs a bit of a nudge in the right direction when it comes to gift buying, nudge him towards!

OOTD - A Wintery One!

I went and spent a few much needed days with my mum during half term and it was chilly enough to crack out my winter coat and my beaaaautiful cloche hat.

My weird face is due to my mum taking about 45 photos before she got one that wasn't of the floor or herself haha.

I've swapped my brighter red and pink lipsticks for slightly darker ones, in particular the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte 107. I've never worn dark lipstick before but this is gorgeous! Plus it really is matte which I like a lot.

Have you got your winter coats out yet?

OOTD 15th November

Firstly, I'm sorry about how rubbish these photos are. My hairy husband's photography skills are shabby at the best of times, plus he has the attention span of a fly!

I bloody love this cardigan. I have it in black too and am going to invest in the navy and charcoal colours soon. It's from M&S and costs a mere £18. The reason I love it so much is because it's one of the few cardigans that is long enough to cover both my boobs and tummy. Usually if I can get a cardi over my jubblies it rides up and looks strange but this is the perfect length.

And just so you can see my big, old moon face...

A Little Catch-Up

First of all, hello! I've been more than a little quiet lately due to a combination of college, assessments, taking a big tumble down the stairs, a scary incident with my father-in-law and a very poorly kitty who has to live in a crate for the foreseeable future. Not a particularly cheery month or so but things are starting to look up and good timing too because Christmas is upon us and I intend to get my fill of festive cheer! Last Christmas was around the peak of my very ill patch so I struggled with enjoying it as much as I usually do so I really want to make up for it this year.

In order to ease me back into my blogging groove I thought I'd do one of those irritating instagram collages that everyone whinges about but secretly enjoys looking at because they're pretty. Plus everyone likes having a nose into other people's lives, don't they?!

1. My lovely teeny mum! 2. Our beautiful new wardrobe! 3. Having a very gentle cuddle with my poor Louie-cat. 4. My smallest bruise from falling down the stairs.
5. Christmas socks. 6. Running out of black clothes to wear for college. 7. My monthly delivery of Delicious. 8. My hairy husband's Breast Cancer Awareness nails :D
9. Halloween punch! 10. My bitchin' pumpkin carving skills. 11. First Christmas drink. 12. Clementines are my favourite wintery snack.
13. My cloche hat! 14. Pretty Bella-cat. 15. Amazing Horror Gore Hotties workshop (more about that later!). 16. Louie-cat's first proper cuddle outside his crate in a month.

I shall be back soon with some long overdue reviews and more wintery outfit posts than you can shake a stick at.
